Meet Sydney Uni Velo Cyclist Cyrille de Baraće

Please meet Sydney Uni Velo cyclist Cyrille de Baraće. Originally from Bretagne, France. Land of Bernard Hinault. We asked Cyrille about his cycling, inspiration and more in our latest Q&A.

Staminade: How did your love of cycling begin?

CdB: “My parents never wanted me to get a moped as a teenager, and was valued too much my time to walk so always moved myself on 2 wheels. Also, while living in Sweden, got to enjoy the freedom of road biking.”

Staminade: What are your top 5 tips for young aspiring cyclists?

CdB: “See cycling as a way to discover new places, not only for fitness. That’s what will fuel your drive to keep pedalling.”

Cyrille’s Successes and Goals

Staminade: What has been your greatest success to date?

CdB: “Propose to my now wife on a bike packing trip in NZ (and her saying yes)!”

Staminade: What’s your ultimate cycling goal?

CdB: “Win a B-grade race. Or more realistically a continental trip across Asia/America’s or Europe.”

Staminade: Who was your role model as an aspiring cyclist?

CdB: “No one. Never watched really road biking. The tour de France was always the boring show my grandparents napped over during summer.”

Staminade: What’s your pre-event routine?

CdB: “Warm up and get the heart going is important. Fuel the bottle. Swallow a gel if >45min.”

Cyrille’s Training

Staminade: How does a typical training week look for you?

CdB: “Tuesday morning: hills

One other week morning beach workout with wife. Weekend: long club fast ride on Saturday morning. A crit or road race every second week.

And I Commute 25km to and back from work every day.”

Staminade: Favourite part of training?

CdB: “The sunrise on the sea on the beach roads during the week morning.”

Staminade: Hardest part of training and how you overcome the challenge?

CdB: “Wake up early is challenging as all training in Sydney has to be done at 9am. But you learn to sleep and wake up earlier as you live here. Also, some hard trainings empty the tank for the whole day. That is why you have to plan your fuelling and hydration in advance. When the body asks for it, it is too late.”

Staminade: What’s your favourite flavour of Staminade?

CdB: “I like Berry Rush as it reminds of drinks I got as a kid during hot summer days.”

Staminade: Staminade’s tagline is ‘First Aid for Thirst’, what does this mean to you?

CdB: “It quenches thirst now and helps recovery. Both in one. And it tastes good, that doesn’t hurt!”
