How did your love of cycling begin?
Haylee: It all started when my Dad began racing. My family and I were his cheer squad, I soon became tired of watching him and decided to give it a crack! I started cycling when I was 7 and still remember the first time I went to do some hill training and mum started me at the bottom of a 10% climb on a fixie and that’s where my love for the sport and hills started.
What are your top 5 tips for young aspiring cyclists?
Haylee: The main thing is to always have fun, make the best out of every situation. Don’t forget to maintain a balance between school, training, family, and friends cause your family and friends will be your biggest supporters. Yesss! There are some bad days, it’s just life but don’t let them overpower the good days and success you have and lastly you don’t have to have the best to be the best, make do of what you have and use that to your advantage. Always ask questions if you aren’t sure and make heaps of friendships along the way.
What has been your greatest success to date?
Haylee: Recently I won the national road race and criterium which has been of greatest success to date. As so much training and hard work went into this and to be rewarded for my efforts was just so exciting! I finished my u/17 year with National Junior road series winner, silver in TT and road race at nationals and a few state medals and tour wins! So hopefully more results are to come in u/19’s!
What’s your ultimate cycling goal?
Haylee: To represent Australia at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, worlds or to ride world tour level overseas.
Who was your role model as an aspiring cyclist?

What’s your pre-event routine?
Haylee: Usually, a very early night, followed the next morning with eggs on toast and lots of hydration. I have a lengthy warm-up so I listen to music to calm the nerves and usually a few bathroom stops before the race starts.
